Programs and Activities
Solid Waste Management Program
Participants: MENRO staff, barangay officials, waste collectors, community residents
Objectives/Purpose:
- Promote proper waste segregation and disposal
- Reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills
- Encourage recycling and composting at the household level
- “No collection, No segregation”
Requirements: Waste bins, segregation posters, collection vehicles
Other stakeholders involved: business establishments, vendors, CSOs
Tree Planting and Reforestation Activity
Participants: MENRO staff, local youth organization, Academe, Barangay residents, PNP, BFP Coastguard, AFP, GNPK, NGO, CSO
Objectives:
- Increase green cover
- Promote environmental awareness and volunteerism
- Promote environmental prevention, mitigation and forest reserve
Requirements: Tree seedlings, planting tools
Date / Duration: as scheduled or during rainy season
Other stakeholders involved: DENR – EMB/PAMB/CENRO/PENRO
Coastal Clean-up Drive
Participants: MENRO staff, Youth sectors, Academe, private sectors, residents, volunteers, 4P’s, BHW
Objectives:
- Remove trash and debris from coastal areas
- Prevent water pollution and protect marine biodiversity
- Raise awareness on the importance of clean waterways
- Coastal reserve management
Date / Duration: As scheduled
Other stakeholders involved: DENR, BFAR, Coast guard, PNP, Barangay councils, NGOs, CSO
Environmental Education and IEC campaign
Participants: Academe, teachers, barangay officials, local residents
Objectives:
- Educate the public on environmental laws and best practices
- Promote community participation environmental programs
- Strict implementation of Local Ordinance on RA 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act)
Date / Duration: As scheduled
Material Recovery facility and Sanitary Landfill Operation and Monitoring
Participants: MENRO and Technical Staff, SB Committee on Environment, Barangay Solid Waste Management Committee, Municipal Solid Waste Management Board, Municipal Engineering Office, Heavy Equipment Operators
Objectives:
- Ensure proper segregation and recycling of collected waste
- Support compliance with RA 9003 (Ecological Solid waste management Act)
Requirements: Sanitary/CMRF site, weighing scales, record
Earth Day/ Environmental Month Celebration
Participants: MENRO staff, students, government employees, barangay officials, private sectors
Objectives:
- Commemorate Earth day, Environmental month and promote environmental awareness
Date / Duration: Every June (Environmental Month) or April (Earth Day)
Other stakeholders: DENR, private sectors, Government employees
Eco-Bricks barter program
Participants: MENRO personnel, Municipal employees and staff from various departments
Objectives:
- Encourage the municipal employees to practice proper waste segregation and plastic recycling.
- Reduce plastic waste generated within municipal offices
- Promote sustainable and eco-friendly habits among government workers
- Barter/reward items by exchanging collected eco-bricks for fresh vegetables.
Requirements:
- Clean and Dry plastic bottles
- Non-Biodegradable plastics ( snacks wrappers, sachets, plastic bags, etc)
- Supply of vegetables( to be sourced from alternative facility)
Date / Duration: Ongoing Implementation
Implementation of “ No Segregation, No Collection” Policy at the Entire Municipality
Participants: MENRO personnel, Barangay officials, barangay residents, Business Establishments
Objectives:
- To strictly implement the “ No Segregation, No Collection” policy within the municipality
- To educate residents on the importance of waste segregation at the household level
- To reduce volume of unsegregated waste collected by the LGU
- To promote proper waste management practices and environmental responsibility among community members
Date / Duration: Continuous Implementation of the policy throughout the year
Vermicomposting and Organic Garden Program for an Alternative Facility
Participants: MENRO staff, Waste Collectors
Objectives:
- To convert biodegradable waste such as vegetable scraps, dried leave and etc. into nutrient-rich organic fertilizer using vermi-worms (African night crawler) while educating participants about sustainable waste management and soil health.
